About The Great Rolando

The Great Rolando Estate Syrah is dedicated to Anna's father, Roland Johansson (1929-1995), a celebrated Swedish American acrobat who delighted audiences throughout the world with his awe-inspiring one-finger balancing act. Discovered at 16 on a beach in Malmö, Sweden, Roland moved to America and toured with Ringling Bros. Circus, The Harlem Globetrotters, and Lilly Yokoi, The Ballerina on the Golden Bicycle. The Great Rolando Estate Syrah hails from the oak-studded hills of California's iconic Santa Ynez Valley, in the Los Olivos AVA. Our ranch, the 4K, is blessed with California's central coast climate and ideal growing conditions. The 15-degree slope of our vineyards, their rich, loamy soil, a 1300-foot elevation, and vines embraced by Pacific Ocean fog, produce exceptional Syrah grapes. We irrigate with well water, harvest by hand, crush in small batches using traditional methods, and age the wine in French oak for 18 months.
